Staging is not decorating. It is preparing a house to put on the market. It is de-personalizing, that is packing away all your collectibles, family photos, extra furniture, etc. and making it a house for sale. So that an interested buyer can walk in the door and place themselves living there. You want to sell the house and not the "stuff."
You say, "well staging costs too much." Consider it an investment. Did you know that 94.6% of ASP staged homes sell on average in 33 days or less? Compare that to 196 days for a non-staged home. So if you look at it this way you are saving money by not having to make the extra monthly mortgage payments while the house is still sitting on the market.
Sometimes it is just a matter of situating furniture in the right place or taking furniture out of a room because there is just too much making the room appear smaller. Or repainting a room because it is just not neutral enough to attract buyers. Your favorite color orange or pink or purple might be a little too much on the walls for someone else so use accents pillows or candles etc. instead to reflect your taste. Just not so much that it overwhelms it.
